Rafael Nadal has secured his spot in round three of the Monte Carlo Masters following a comfortable 6-1 6-2 victory over Marinko Matosevic on Wednesday.
The former world number one took charge of the opening set in the early stages when he secured successive breaks of serve to move 4-0 ahead with relative ease.
Matosevic held his serve at 0-4 to get his first game on the board, but the Australian was then broken at 1-5 as Nadal claimed the first set after just 25 minutes of tennis.
Matosevic did impress in the early stages of the second, breaking Nadal before serving into a 2-0 lead. However, the Spaniard found another gear in the latter stages as he secured three successive breaks to claim the second set 6-2.
