Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has eased past David Goffin in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters this afternoon.
The Frenchman prevailed in a time of one hour and 26 minutes, securing a 6-3 6-4 straight-sets win to pave the way for a meeting with Marin Cilic.
Having held his serve throughout the opening set, Tsonga was able to break his opponent in the eighth game to race ahead.
That breakthrough came despite initially squandering one set point, and the frailties were there to see in the second when two match points passed the world number 14 by.
Goffin was unable to use that to his advantage, though, with Tsonga securing an impressive victory in the end to keep his campaign alive.
