Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has moved into the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters thanks to a straight-sets win over Jan-Lennard Struff.
The Frenchman, who is currently ranked 14th in the world, broke early to move into a 3-1 lead before serving out the opening set 6-4.
Tsonga saved five break points in the second as world number 76 Struff put up more resistance, but he was able to hold his nerve to come through 6-4 6-4.
The former Australian Open finalist will now face Belgian youngster David Goffin in the second round of the tournament.
