Aljaz Bedene has confirmed that he has been awarded British citizenship.
The 25-year-old, who has been in the United Kingdom since 2008, was born in Slovenia.
However, Bedene attended a ceremony in Hertfordshire earlier today, where it was confirmed that he will be able to compete as a British tennis player within the next two weeks.
Taking to Twitter this afternoon, Bedene said: "Guys it's official I am now a British citizen, all I need now is to order a passport!!"
As he is ranked number 83 in the world, Bedene will now become the British number two behind Andy Murray.
As it stands, he cannot represent Britain in the Davis Cup due to the fact that he was selected by Slovenia on three occasions - a ruling that he is currently in the process of challenging.
