Emma Raducanu marched to her first win since the US Open as she overcame Polona Hercog in the first round of the Transylvania Open.

The 18-year-old took part in the Indian Wells Masters earlier this month following her historic Grand Slam win, but after receiving a bye to the second round, she was sent packing by Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

However, Raducanu - whose father is from Bucharest - sought to consign that momentum-killing defeat to history as she defeated Hercog of Slovenia in three sets to move to round two.

Raducanu claimed a 4-6 7-5 6-1 triumph on the night and would proceed to express her pride at playing in her father's homeland during her post-match interview, during which she demonstrated her Romanian language skills.

The Briton is now set to face Ana Bogdan of Romania in Thursday's second-round battle for a spot in the quarter-finals against either Mona Barthel or Marta Kostyuk.
