Great Britain's 2022 ATP Cup campaign began in ideal fashion with a 2-1 victory over Germany in their opening game of Group C at the Sydney Super Dome.
Dan Evans kicked off the day against Jan-Lennard Struff as GB stormed into an early lead, with the 31-year-old winning 6-1 6-2 to put the Brits 1-0 up.
However, Cameron Norrie came unstuck against world number three Alexander Zverev, who took the tie 7-6 6-1 to set up a deciding doubles encounter.
Evans and Zverev both took to the court for the decider alongside Jamie Murray and Kevin Krawietz, with GB winning in straight sets 6-3 6-4 to sit second in the Group C rankings.
The USA lead the way in the group after overcoming Canada - whom GB will face next on Tuesday - by three matches to nil, while elsewhere, a Novak Djokovic-less Serbia overcame Norway 2-1.
Evans will take on Denis Shapovalov when GB square off with Canada in two days' time, while Norrie prepares for battle with Felix Auger-Aliassime.
