Tim Henman: 'Andy Murray's injury has deteriorated'

Tim Henman claims that Andy Murray's hip injury has "deteriorated" following his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon.

Tim Henman has claimed that Andy Murray's hip injury has worsened during his failed campaign at Wimbledon.

The defending champion was knocked out at the quarter-final stage by American Sam Querrey after being taken to five sets.

Murray's injury hampered his preparations for the Grand Slam, and in the end, Henman believes that it contributed to his defeat today.

"I think Andy knew the writing was on the wall in the fourth set," Henman told BBC Sport. "You can see by his movement there there's no real chance for him to chase down the ball.

"Given the circumstances, the schedules, there are tournaments you'll be injured in and have to pull out. But as the defending champion, at the home Slam, it's not the circumstances you want to go out in.

"There's not a great deal you can do, especially if you've been treating the injury for so long. It's something he's been battling. Over a two-week event sometimes injuries can improve, and you can run them off, but this one has deteriorated. Those last two sets we saw how much it hampered his game."

Murray could lose his number one world ranking if Novak Djokovic wins the tournament at the All England Club.
