Jamie Murray has become the first British tennis player to be ranked number one in the world.
The Scot, brother of singles world number two Andy Murray, will officially become men's doubles number one when the rankings are updated on April 4.
Murray was knocked out in the first round of the Miami Open with partner Bruno Soares, but last year's results at the tournament mean that the defeat suffered by current top-ranked Marcelo Melo in the second round today will assure Murray of top spot.
Murray's rise to the top of the doubles rankings comes after he won his first men's doubles Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January.
Former Wimbledon singles winner and four-time Grand Slam women's doubles winner Virginia Wade was ranked first in the women's doubles ratings, but the official rankings were not brought in until 1975.
