Kyle Edmund has opted to enter the Winston-Salem Open as he bids to gain more match practice ahead of the US Open.
The British number one has won just one match since reaching the third round of Wimbledon, and the 23-year-old has ranking points to defend after coming through the qualifiers to reach the semi-finals at the ATP250 event 12 months ago.
The third seed has been given a bye through to the second round, where he will face either Leonardo Mayer or Yuichi Sugita.
Andy Murray was offered a wildcard for the event, but the former world number one instead decided to focus his attention on Flushing Meadows.
Johanna Konta is also in action next week, with the British number one meeting Laura Siegemund in New Haven.
