Martina Navratilova has said that players should strike if they want to ease their playing schedule.
World number four Andy Murray recently suggested that striking would be an option to help deal with the intense season that the top male players face.
"You cannot maintain that level of intensity and not put your body in hospital eventually," the 54-year-old told the BBC.
"I don't know why Andy Murray should be criticised for taking charge of his life.
"If that's the only way they can get to that point, then that's what they have to do if they can unify themselves enough and that's the last resort."
Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam title during a 30-year career.
