David Goffin has recorded a straight-sets victory over Nicolas Mahut to reach the third round of the Paris Masters.
The Belgian needs to reach the final of the last Masters Series event of 2016 in order to progress through to the ATP Tour Finals, and he impressively dispatched of the home favourite by a 7-6 6-3 scoreline.
The two players shared four breaks of serve during the opening set before Goffin edged a tie-break 7-5, and although Mahut struck again in the second, he struggled to hold his own serve and the world number 12 was able to gain two more breaks.
The 25-year-old will now play the winner of the match between Marin Cilic and Ivo Karlovic.
