Crowd favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has advanced to the third round of the Paris Masters after a relatively comfortable win over Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
The 2008 champion began steadily and the game was on serve until Tsonga made a crucial break in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead before going on to hold his serve and take the set.
Set number two got off to a similarly even start but this time it was Garcia-Lopez who broke first to take a two-game lead. However, Tsonga, a Wimbledon semi-finalist from earlier this year was bullish in response.
He broke straight back and then produced some forehand winners to take the next three games comfortably to seal a straight-sets win.
Tsonga will face either Andreas Seppi or Nicolas Almagro for a quarter-final place.
