Tomas Berdych booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open this afternoon thanks to a 7-6(5) 7-5 win over Kevin Anderson.
South African number one Anderson led 5-3 in the first set but Berdych fought back to force the tie-break, which he won 7-5.
Despite being pushed hard in the second set by Anderson, Berdych's quality shone through as the Czech player took the second set 7-5.
Berdych advances to the last eight of the competition, where he will play the winner of the match between Andy Murray and Frenchman Gilles Simon.
