Former British number two Dan Evans marks his return to tennis following a year-long ban with a straight-sets win over Ed Corrie in Glasgow.

Dan Evans has defeated fellow Briton Ed Corrie 6-3 7-6(6) in round one of qualifying for next week's ATP Challenger Tour event.

The former British number two progressed through in straight sets on his first competitive outing in 12 months following his ban for taking cocaine.

Evans, ranked 41st in the world at his peak, had to dig deep in a second set that went all way in Glasgow.

After saving a set point in the tie-break, the 27-year-old closed out for victory to set up a meeting with Ireland's Sam Barry on Sunday.

Speaking after the match, Evans is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I pretty much felt like I'd won the tournament. I didn't know what was going to happen today so it's good to come out on top and get another chance to play again tomorrow.

"I was pleasantly surprised. I played better than I have been. Some parts of my game need a bit of work but it's the first match. I felt fine physically. I was getting a bit tired towards the end but after so long off that's pretty normal, I think."

Evans was given a wildcard for the qualifiers by the Lawn Tennis Association.
