Novak Djokovic has reached the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open with a 6-4 7-6 victory over 18th seed John Isner.
The world number one dictated the tempo of most rallies in the early stages of the match, but Isner was typically dependable on serve until a vital breakthrough for the Serbian.
A couple of errors from the American handed Djokovic a 0-40 lead in the seventh game, and the top seed took full advantage to break before wrapping up the opener.
The second set followed a similar pattern as both players excelled on serve, with Djokovic saving the only two break points on offer before the tie-break arrived.
A mistake from Isner in the tie-break handed Djokovic two chances to win the match on serve, but he wasted both opportunities before winning the next point to secure a meeting with Bernard Tomic.
