David Ferrer has eased past Rui Machado in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the Austalian Open.
Fifth seed Ferrer made light work of his Portuguese opponent in a 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory.
The Spaniard made a brilliant start to the first-round clash, quickly wrapping up the first set having only lost one game.
Machado improved in the second set but Ferrer's experience seemed to take over and he was able to break his unseeded opponent to take the set.
In the third set, Ferrer finished the match with little fuss by showing some trademark ground strokes to ensure there was no sign of an upset.
