David Ferrer proves too much for Bernard Tomic to claim a 6-4 3-6 6-1 win at the quarter-final stage of the Mexico Open.

David Ferrer has sealed his place in the Mexico Open semi-finals courtesy of a three-sets win over Bernard Tomic this morning.

The second seed had some trouble navigating past his opponent, although in the end he came out on top 6-4 3-6 6-1 to advance into the final four where he will now meet Ryan Harrison.

Ferrer capitalised on the only loss of serve in the opening set, which came in the fifth game, to take a foothold in the contest in Acapulco.

World number 42 Tomic managed to peg back the Spaniard, however, taking the second set with a break of serve in the eighth game to pave the way for a decider.

It was Ferrer, winner of this event for three years in succession between 2010 and 2012, who came out on top, finding three aces in the third set on his way to twice breaking Tomic and advancing through as a result.
