Richard Gasquet has battled his way into the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters following a tough 6-7[3] 7-5 7-6[3] victory over Nicolas Almagro.

Both competitors were on equal terms for the majority of the opening set as games went by the way of serve until a tie-break was forced to decide the opening set.

It was a tight contest, but Almagro was able to edge it by securing the head-to-head battle 7-3 to take the lead in Florida.

Gasquet started strongly in the second set, showing no signs of lethargy following the opening-set defeat, as he nabbed a vital tie-break to go on and level the match.

Once again, the deciding set continued by the way of serve, which forced through another tie-break, which Gasquet managed to clinch to push into the final eight of the competition.
