Santiago Giraldo has defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4 6-3 in today's second-round clash at the Madrid Masters, making the French 11th seed the day's major casualty in the men's draw.
After an even start, the Colombian broke serve in the seventh game before going on to win the first set, despite being pushed close by Tsonga.
The decisive second set was a more straightforward affair, as Giraldo was able to break his opponent twice to seal the straight-sets win in an hour and 10 minutes.
Giraldo will now face Andy Murray in the third round after the 2013 Wimbledon champion defeated Nicolas Almagro 6-1 1-6 6-4.
