Angelique Kerber has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Sydney International after seeing off Carla-Suarez Navarro 6-2 6-4 in the Ken Rosewall Arena.
The German pro showed her intent early in the contest by nabbing the first break of serve and taking control of the court with strong forehands and swift returns.
The first set was temporarily halted due to rain, but Navarro failed to make the most of the break as she quickly succumbed to a one-set deficit.
Despite showing some promise in the second set, the Spaniard eventually struggled to match Kerber as the German grabbed a vital break to push on and win the match.
