Johanna Konta has suffered a three-set defeat to Jelena Ostapenko in the third round of the Italian Open.
The British number one had been hoping to progress through to the last eight in Rome, but Ostapenko fought back to register a 2-6 6-3 6-4 victory.
Konta was superb during the opening set, breaking twice to ease into an advantage, but Roland Garros champion Ostapenko found her rhythm during the rest of the contest.
A single break of serve was enough to take the second and third sets - with Konta creating just one more break point in the match - and the Latvian was able to seal victory in two hours and 14 minutes.
Konta will now turn her focus to the French Open, where the 27-year-old is only defending a first-round exit from 12 months ago.
