Johanna Konta has begun her Elite Trophy campaign with a straight-sets win over Samantha Stosur.
The British number one narrowly missed out on qualification for the end-of-season WTA Finals but she was in fine form as she beat Stosur 6-4 6-2 in Zhuhai.
The top seed secured the only break of serve during the opening set before she struck twice more during the second to wrap up victory in 78 minutes.
The 25-year-old's triumph has ensured that she will end the year in the top 10 of the WTA world rankings.
Konta will now face France's Caroline Garcia as she looks to come through the round-robin stage as the winner of her group.
