Venus Williams has progressed into the quarter-finals of the Rome Open after dominating Samantha Stosur 6-4 6-3 in Italy.
The former world number one got off to a bright start in the third-round clash by snatching the first break of serve and taking advantage on the clay court to go one set up.
The number five seed proved her worth in the early stages of the second set and looked set to draw level, but the American pro refused to relinquish her lead.
Despite a positive comeback, Stosur couldn't retain her service games, which allowed Williams to take control of the contest and finish off the match in straight sets.
