James Ward has missed out on a place in the final of the Pune Challenger, after he lost in straight sets to Yuki Bhambri.
The British number four had been looking to win his second successive tournament after claiming victory in Bangalore last week.
However, his run of eight wins in a row came to an end as he lost 7-6 6-3 to top seed Bhambri, who has moved into the world's top 100 as a result of his performances in India.
Despite the setback, Ward is expected to rise to 139th in the ATP standings, while he has put himself in pole position to be selected for Great Britain in the Davis Cup final.
Elsewhere, Brydan Klein has moved into the semi-finals of the Traralgon Challenger after a comfortable 6-1 6-2 win over Benjamin Mitchell.
