Great Britain's number three James Ward recorded a 7-5 6-4 victory over Blaz Rola to advance through to the second round at The Queen's Club this afternoon.
Ward, currently ranked 155th in the world, broke his Slovenian opponent in the very first game of the first set, but then immediately surrendered that advantage when he had the ball in hand.
However, Ward broke for a second time in the 11th game and on this occasion he maintained his advantage by holding serve to open up a one-set lead.
The wildcard entry then took control of the second set in the ninth game when he broke world number 91 Rola for a third time, before he held his own service game next time out to win the match in one hour and 30 minutes.
The 27-year-old Brit will now take on world number 12 Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the third round.
