Great Britain's Heather Watson loses in round one of the Katowice Open to the Czech Republic's Kristyna Pliskova.

Heather Watson was knocked out of the Katowice Open in the opening round courtesy of a 6-2 3-6 6-4 defeat at the hands of Kristyna Pliskova earlier today.

The British number two is ranked 33 places above her opponent in the world rankings, but it was the Czech player that advanced into round two.

Watson surrendered the opening set after she had failed to convert any of her four break-point opportunities.

She responded by recording the only break of the second set, but the 23-year-old from Guernsey ultimately ended up falling short in the decider.
