World number six Tomas Berdych has advanced to the third round of the Rogers Cup thanks to a 6-3 6-4 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov.
The Czech pro will face the winner of the match between Radek Stepanek and John Isner's conqueror Vasek Pospisil.
Berdych took both break point chances that he created in the first set, which, despite being broken himself, was enough for a one-set lead.
He had to save five break points on serve in the second set, and the clinical 27-year-old needed just the one to book his place in the next round.
