Russian qualifier Alex Bogomolov Jr has upset world number three David Ferrer in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The 30-year-old Muscovite took full advantage of an out-of-sorts Ferrer, winning 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 25 minutes.
Bogomolov broke Ferrer twice in the first set, while also denying the Spaniard a break of serve on three occasions.
Both men had struggled with their first serve in the opening set, averaging around 60%. However, Bogomolov upped his percentage to 80% in the second, while Ferrer laboured behind.
This time, Bogomolov only needed one of two break point opportunities created before serving the set out 6-4. He will take on either Nikolay Davydenko or Pablo Andujar in the third round.
