Carla Suarez Navarro is out of the Rogers Cup after suffering a three-set defeat to Alize Cornet.
The Spaniard has endured a poor run of form since the start of the grass-court season in June, and a fourth consecutive defeat went into the books as she succumbed to Cornet in three hours and 10 minutes.
Suarez Navarro had her serve broken three times on the way to losing the opening set but she remained alive in the contest after taking the second on a tie-break.
However, in the decider, Cornet won over half of the points on the ninth seed's serve and that was enough for her to run out a 6-3 6-7 6-4 winner.
