Fabio Fognini has continued his strong 2013 campaign with a victory over Marcos Baghdatis at the Rogers Cup today.
The 13th seed quickly went a set down to the experienced Cypriot, suffering three breaks of serve to drop the opener 6-1 inside 26 minutes.
Fognini replied in kind to level the match swiftly, finding his form on serve to claim the second set 6-1 and force a decider.
Baghdatis was unable to match the Italian in the third set, coming under pressure on second serve and failing to deal with his opponent's assault from the baseline.
The 26-year-old maintained his composure to close out a 1-6 6-1 6-1 success, booking a second-round clash in Montreal with Ernests Gulbis.
