Mirjana Lucic-Baroni has progressed through to the second round of the Rogers Cup after fighting back to see off Karolina Pliskova.
The qualifier looked to be heading out of the tournament when she surrendered the opening set to the Czech, who reached the final in Stanford earlier this month.
However, Lucic-Baroni, the world number 51, improved during the second before taking it on a tie-break and she soon established the early break in the decider.
Pliskova continued to fight on, saving six break-point opportunities in the third, but the tenth seed still allowed Lucic-Baroni to strike twice more to confirm her place in the last 32 with a 3-6 7-6 6-2 triumph.
