Roberto Bautista Agut has recorded the biggest win of his career by beating Novak Djokovic to reach the Shanghai Masters final.
The Spaniard had never beaten the world number one in five previous meetings, but he overcame the disappointment of squandering three match points to eventually win 6-4 6-4.
Djokovic was far from his best in his quarter-final win over Mischa Zverev and he was again below-par in the opening set against Bautista Agut who secured the only break of serve to move into the lead.
The defending champion continued to be second-best throughout the next set and Bautista Agut appeared on course for victory when serving for the match at 5-3.
However, Djokovic saved three match points before getting back on serve but in the next game, he failed to hold behind his own delivery for the fourth time in the contest as he succumbed to a surprise defeat.
