Novak Djokovic has progressed to the semi-finals at the Shanghai Masters by beating Australia's Bernard Tomic 7-6 6-1 in the last eight.
Ahead of their fifth meeting, Djokovic had won nine successive sets against Tomic, and it appeared as though a 10th would be a formality after the Serbian broke at the start of the match.
However, Tomic struck back before digging deep to take the opening set to a tie-break, only to see Djokovic maintain his composure to move into a one-set advantage.
Despite the closely-fought first set, it did not take the world number one long to wrap up the match, breaking the Australian's serve in the opening game of the second set.
Tomic picked up the third game of the set to keep himself in contention, but the Serb claimed four games in a row to book his spot in the last four, where he will face the winner of the match between Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych.
