World number one Roger Federer overcame the challenge of Lu Yen-Hsun to move into round three of the Shanghai Masters this afternoon.
Federer, who needs to reach at least the quarter-finals to remain top of the rankings, took the first set 6-3.
His opponent from Taipei provided more resistance during the second set as the two players held their opening five service games each.
However, Federer then broke for a 6-5 lead, before serving out to win the match.
Switzerland's Federer will now take on fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka for a place in the final eight.
