Feliciano Lopez has progressed through to the last 32 of the Shanghai Masters following a straight-sets victory over Russia's Andrey Kuznetsov.
The Spanish player came through 6-4 7-6 (7-3) after one hour and 48 minutes.
The first set was a largely even affair, with both players holding serve in the opening games. However, Lopez gained the advantage in the ninth game as he broke to move 5-4 up.
Kuznetsov had saved four break points in the game, but the fifth one proved too much for him, which gave Lopez the chance to serve out the set, which he did in the next game.
Lopez looked to have gained an early advantage in the second set, breaking his opponent in the third game, but Kuznetsov fought back with his own break of serve in the eighth to level matters.
Both players held serve in the four games that followed which took the set to a tie-break, which Lopez won 7-3 to move into the next round.
