Roger Federer has reached the quarter-finals of the Swiss Indoors championship despite being made to labour against Philipp Kohlschreiber.
The 34-year-old, who suffered a shock defeat to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in his first game at the Shanghai Masters earlier this month, lost the second set in Basel to his unseeded opponent.
Nevertheless the Swiss 17-time Grand Slam champion recovered to move into the last eight by seeing off Kohlschreiber 6-4 4-6 6-4 and set up a quarter-final against David Goffin.
Federer only had three break point opportunities, but won two to ensure that he prevailed at the expense of his German opponent and remain in the hunt for another triumph in his homeland.
