Andy Murray says that he is pleased with how he performed during his five-set Davis Cup victory over Kei Nishikori, which booked Great Britain a quarter-final spot.

Andy Murray has said that he is delighted with his five-set victory over Kei Nishikori in the Davis Cup this afternoon

The Scot led the match by two sets to love at one point, but Nishikori fought back before Murray finally dispatched of the world number six to secure a 3-1 win for Great Britain against Japan.

At just under five hours, the match was the longest of Murray's career alongside his US Open final victory over Novak Djokovic in 2012, and he was pleased with how he coped with the test.

"I do think it was a really good effort to come through that, after going down a break at the beginning of the fifth, and how I was feeling physically as well. I thought I did really well to win that fifth set, with everything that has gone on over the last few weeks and over the weekend," Murray told reporters.

"My body is very sore just now. I have put myself through a lot this weekend. I have volunteered for all three days and I really, really wanted to win today.

"I maybe wanted to win too much. I was getting frustrated when I wasn't taking opportunities I should have. I deeply cared about today's match and I expect that will stay the same throughout the rounds."

Great Britain will next face Serbia in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup in July.
