Andy Murray and Laura Robson miss out on the mixed doubles gold medal as they lose out 10-8 in the match-deciding 'super' tie-break to Belarusians Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi.

Andy Murray has missed out on the opportunity to win two Olympic gold medals in one day after losing the mixed doubles final by the narrowest of margins to Belarus this evening.

Singles gold medallist Murray and partner Laura Robson got off to the perfect start by breaking Max Mirnyi's big serve in the first game before then cracking Victoria Azarenka to-love two games later.

They were soon 4-0 ahead and held serve for the remainder of the set to claim a 6-2 success in just over half an hour.

After a nerveless opening three games from both pairs at the start of the second, Robson was broken and the Belarusians took a commanding lead in the set.

Both Mirnyi and Azarenka were serving stronger and they both continued to hold serve, taking the set 6-3 to send the match into a deciding 'super' tie-break.

Robson double faulted on the opening point of the 10-point tie-break as the top seeds moved to a 3-0 lead.

The Brits responded though and changed ends for the first time at 3-3, with Robson seeming to calm down her nerves and come out on top in an exchange with Mirnyi at the net.

The 18-year-old however double faulted again with her next serve but regained composure to win the next point and keep the breaker on serve.

The players again changed ends with nothing separating them at 6-6 but then Murray's serve was broken as Mirnyi attacked Robson at the net.

Murray then returned into the net from an Azarenka second serve before the women's world number one held serve again to bring up three gold-medal points.

Robson impressively held both her service points to stave off defeat but it was left to Mirnyi to convert the last gold-medal point on serve.

The giant doubles specialist banged down a first serve and Murray presented Azarenka with an easy volley that she put at the feet of Robson to wrap up victory 10-8 in the breaker.

Murray still comes away with a gold and silver medal from the Games, while Azarenka is also a double-medal winner, having claimed bronze in the women's singles.
