Sports Mole brings you live commentary of the 2014 women's US Open final, where Serena Williams beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-3 to claim her 18th Grand Slam.

Defending champion Serena Williams met Caroline Wozniacki in the final of the 2014 women's US Open this evening.

Williams took the first set 6-3 after breaking her Danish opponent on three occasions.

The American also broke twice in the second set, meanwhile, in addition to holding each of her four serves to claim the title 6-3 6-3.

It is Williams's 18th Grand Slam and sixth US Open title, but Wozniacki's wait for a Grand Slam continues.

Read how it all unfolded in Sports Mole's game-by-game live commentary of the action below.

Hello all! The 2014 women's US Open draws to a close this evening as Serena Williams faces Caroline Wozniacki in New York. Williams, who is the top seed and defending champion, is the favourite to overcome 10th-seed Wozniacki, but as we saw in the men's semi-finals yesterday, surprises can happen. Just a reminder that the match is due to start at 9.30pm UK time.
The pair met in the Western & Southern Open just last month, with Williams winning in three sets to book her spot in the final of that particular competition. Williams also beat Wozniacki in the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup in August. Overall, the American has won eight of the nine meetings between the two players, with Wozniacki's only win coming in 2012.
Williams, 32, is attempting to win her 18th Grand Slam in New York. During an incredible career, she has won the Australian Open five times, the French Open twice, Wimbledon five times and the US Open five times – including each of the last two tournaments.
Wozniacki, meanwhile, is still waiting for her first Grand Slam. The 24-year-old reached the final of the US Open in 2009, but that is her only final to date. Elsewhere, the Dane has made the semi-finals of the Australian Open and quarter-finals of the French Open.
In terms of Williams's route to the final, the American beat Taylor Townsend, Vania King, Varvara Lepchenko and Kaia Kanepi in the early rounds, before overcoming Flavia Pennetta in the quarter-finals. Her spot in the final was secured after overcoming Ekaterina Makarova 6-1 6-3 in a fairly routine semi-final clash on Friday.
Wozniacki, meanwhile, beat Magdalena Rybarikova, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Andrea Petkovic in the early rounds, before beating Maria Sharapova in the round of 16. Sara Errani was then dispatched in the quarter-finals, before Shuai Peng was forced to retire during their semi-final clash on Friday.

Williams and Wozniacki are good friends off the court, but there will be no room for sentiment in this match. Not when the US Open is up for grabs and the tasty pay packet that comes with it.
As expected, it is a beautiful day in New York City. The sun is shining and the crowd is expectant. The match is due to start in the next five minutes, although this is not set in stone!
Just a reminder that Williams is going in search of her sixth US Open this evening and her 18th Grand Slam overall. Wozniacki, however, is yet to win a Grand Slam despite her standing in the women's game.

This is Serena's manor these is no question about that, she just loves this competition. I cannot see Wozniacki upsetting causing a shock this evening and I am backing Williams to win in two sets.
Here we go then. Both players join us on court...
Williams has won the toss and the American chooses to serve first. It is almost time.
Both players are just knocking up ahead of the start of this contest. Williams looks incredibly focused, while Wozniacki looks slightly more relaxed. Wozniacki simply has to start well this evening.
And then there were two. The stage is set for the conclusion of the women's 2014 US Open. In terms of the weather, there is no wind in New York, which will certainly suit Williams's style of play.
