Injured Novak Djokovic is confident that he will recover in time for next week's US open.

Novak Djokovic believes that he will be fit in time for next week’s US Open, after picking up a shoulder injury during the Cincinnati Open final yesterday (Sunday).

The world number one was forced to concede the match to Andy Murray after a shoulder strain was impinging on his serve and forehand.

“The good thing is that there is a week, eight days to the start of the US Open,” Djokovic said after the final. “So I think that's enough time for me to get ready.”

Djokovic received attention on his right shoulder at the end of the first set but was forced to concede three games later.

The 24-year-old has won nine ATP Tour titles already this year, including the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and is confident that he will be in form for the US Open.

“I've been winning a lot and reaching the final stages of each event that I've participated in. Considering the schedule that is very busy in tennis, it's kind of normal to expect that at some stage you are exhausted. But as I said, I am confident that I can recover and be ready for the US Open.”

The US Open begins on Monday, August 29.
