Novak Djokovic has suggested that he was under pressure to defeat Roger Federer in the final of the US Open, because the world number two is the game's greatest ever player.
The 28-year-old won his second US Open title after defeating the Swiss veteran 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4, and Djokovic accepts that he had to be at his best to finish the match and complete his best season since 2011.
Speaking to ESPN, Djokovic said: "Coming on the court and knowing that you're playing against the best player in the history of the game adds pressure.
"It's been an incredible season, next to 2011 probably the best season of my life.
"Today I was serving at 5-2 for the set, and Roger showed why he's a champion and he kept on fighting."
Federer has not won a major since the 2012 Wimbledon Championships.
