Former US Open champion Lleyton Hewitt has admitted that it feels "awkward" to be pitted against fellow Australian Bernard Tomic in the second round.
The 34-year-old, who entered the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows as a wildcard, regularly mentors Tomic, who he will face this evening.
When asked by The AP how he feels about the match-up, Hewitt said: "Just awkward - that's the only thing to summarise that. I get along great with Bernie. Helped him out a lot. Hit with him this week.
"For me, in the position that I'm in now, trying to help these guys, especially with Davis Cup and the rest of it, it's tough."
Tomic is yet to progress past the second round in this tournament.
