Ekaterina Makarova has admitted that she feared losing her third-round match against Elina Svitolina when her leg began cramping up towards the end of the encounter.
The 27-year-old was ready to serve for the match when she felt cramp, resulted in her trainer coming on court to administer treatment.
Makarova was able to return and secure a 6-3 7-5 victory on the Arthur Ashe Court, but after the match she told The AP that she was "so scared" that cramp was going to result in her demise.
The Russian will take on Kristina Mladenovic in the fourth round.
