An abdominal strain will keep Lucie Safarova out of the doubles event at the US Open.
On Tuesday, Safarova, the sixth seed in the women's singles, suffered a straight-sets defeat to Lesia Tsurenko before revealing that she had been trying to contend with an injury picked up at New Haven last week.
The Czech hitter is regarded as one of the best doubles players in the world, having combined with Bethanie Mattek-Sands to win at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros earlier this year.
However, the 28-year-old has opted to take some time off in order to recover for the final weeks of the season.
