Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has admitted that it is 'frustrating' to have lost to Marin Cilic in the quarter-finals of the US Open after initially fighting back from two sets down at Flushing Meadows in New York.

The Frenchman, who has never progressed past the quarter-final stage in this tournament, managed to push the contest into a fifth and final set after denying his opponent three match points.

However, Cilic was able to bounce back and seal a 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-7(3) 6-4 victory to book a place in the semi-finals.

After the match, Tsonga told reporters: "I would like to be a winner today, but unfortunately I lost. It's a lot of frustration, of course, but that's tennis.

"He just hit the ball a little bit more properly than me at the right moment, and that was a huge difference at the end because he just made it. He just made it."

The closest that Tsonga has come to winning a Grand Slam was at the Australian Open in 2008, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
