Jack Draper is the final Briton left standing in the US Open singles tournaments after three of his compatriots suffered third-round exits on Saturday.
The 21-year-old ended the hopes of home favourite Michael Mmoh with a 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-3 victory, but Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Katie Boulter were all knocked out.
Attempting to consign his recent injury woes to the past, Draper followed up his statement win over 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz in the second round to reach the last 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
The world number 123 broke Mmoh five times over the course of the match and also hit 52 winners compared to 28 for the American, who posted a meagre 31% win rate on his second serve.
After taking the third set, a rejuvenated Mmoh also earned the first break in the fourth, but Draper fought back to win five of the next six games and saved another break point before completing the job with a backhand volley.
Draper will now pit his wits against Russia's Andrey Rublev for a quarter-final place, but Evans's valiant efforts against reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz were in vain as he lost to the number one seed in four sets.
Alcaraz took three hours and 11 minutes to record a 6-2 6-3 4-6 6-3 triumph against Evans, who has now been dumped out in the third round five times at Flushing Meadows, but he could pat himself on the back after doing his utmost to recover from a nightmare start.
Alcaraz won the first four games of the match before losing his serve early in the second set, but Evans could not capitalise on that setback for the Spaniard, who stormed back thanks to a couple of double faults from the British number two.
However, Evans broke for a 4-3 lead in the third set and managed to prolong the contest, but as the fourth set progressed, Alcaraz - who missed 11 break points on the day - turned the tide with a spate of forehand winners en route to victory.
The reigning champion will continue the defence of his title against Italian 22-year-old Matteo Arnaldi, who also did his bit to end Great Britain's hopes of US Open glory, defeating Norrie with relative ease 6-3 6-4 6-3.
Arnaldi took five of the six chances he brought up to break Norrie, who contrarily only managed to convert one of his five such opportunities as he suffered his third last-32 Grand Slam exit of the year.
Meanwhile, Boulter - the only Briton to reach the third round in the women's singles event - fell short against American Peyton Stearns, going down 6-4 6-3 to the 21-year-old in 97 minutes.
Boulter did recover from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to draw level at 4-4, but she lost her serve again not long after and was broken to love in the sixth game of the second set, before squandering three break points as Stearns served out the match.
Elsewhere, Stearns's compatriot Jessica Pegula overcame Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-4 4-6 6-2, while Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova also progressed.
Daniil Medvedev, Alex De Minaur and Alexander Zverev will also compete in the fourth round, and the latter will take on Jannik Sinner, who bested 2016 champion Stanislas Wawrinka in four sets. body check tags ::
