A 70-year-old tennis referee who was due to work at the US Open next week has been arrested on suspicion of bludgeoning her 80-year-old husband to death with a mug.
Lois Ann Goodman was wearing her official US Open tracksuit and on her way to Queen's for qualifying duties when she was taken in by police.
The charge is that Goodman killed her husband in a row at their home on April 17, when she hit husband Alan with a mug and then stabbed him with one of its broken pieces.
She had previously told police that her husband, with whom she has three daughters, had fallen down the stairs.
Goodman is a veteran of the tennis circuit, having worked at the US Open and Australian Open for several decades.
