Two-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek will attempt to win her third Grand Slam title when she faces Ons Jabeur in the US Open final.

Jabeur, meanwhile, is bidding to become a Grand Slam champion after previously losing in the final at this year's Wimbledon.

Match preview

After reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open and winning the French Open for the second time in her career, Swiatek experienced a poor tournament at Wimbledon.

The world number one was eliminated in the third round at the All England Club, but she has responded emphatically in the final Grand Slam of the year.

Swiatek cruised through the opening three rounds without dropping a set, however, her place in the tournament appeared to be precarious when she lost the first set to Jule Niemeier.

With the Polish player at risk of crashing out in the round of 16, she fought back to take the second set 6-4 before winning the decider without losing a single game.

Jessica Pegula was dispatched in the quarter-final to set up a last-four meeting with world number six Aryna Sabalenka where Swiatek lost the first set 6-3.

However, she dropped only five games in the next two sets to claim a place in Saturday's final, presenting Swiatek with the chance to win a seventh tournament title in 2022.

After winning her previous two Grand Slam finals - which both took place at the French Open - Swiatek is aiming to win her first US Open title.

Meanwhile, Jabeur is participating in her second Grand Slam final after missing out on the Wimbledon title in July, with Elena Rybakina prevailing on that occasion.

The Tunisian has used the Wimbledon final defeat as motivation to reach consecutive Grand Slam finals after enjoying a successful US Open.

Having previously failed to make it way past the third round at Flushing Meadows, Jabeur has only dropped one set on the way to Saturday's showdown with Swiatek.

Jabeur won the first two matches 7-5 6-2, before she came from a set down to beat Shelby Rogers, which ensured that the world number five avoided a fourth consecutive third-round exit.

Veronika Kudermetova was ousted in round four before a win over Ajla Tomljanovic set up a semi-final meeting with Caroline Garcia.

Although Garcia eased her way to the final four without dropping a set, she was comfortably beaten 6-1 6-3 by Jabeur who wrapped up the win in 67 minutes.

Jabeur will now look to use the experience gained from her Wimbledon final to help her become a Grand Slam champion for the first time on Saturday.

Head To Head

Washington (2019) - First round: Swiatek def. Jabeur 4-6 6-4 6-4
Wimbledon (2021) - Round of 16: Jabeur def. Swiatek 5-7 6-1 6-1
Cincinnati (2021) - Second Round: Jabeur def. Swiatek 6-3 6-3
Rome (2022) - Final: Swiatek def. Jabeur 6-2 6-2

Swiatek and Jabeur have met on four previous occasions, with the pair sharing two wins apiece, with two of those matches taking place on a hard court.

The Polish player won on the hard surface in Washington three years ago, although Jabeur emerged victorious when they faced off in Cincinnati.

Jabeur also prevailed in the only Grand Slam meeting between the pair at Wimbledon in 2021, while Swiatek beat the 28-year-old when they met on clay in the Rome final earlier this year.

We say: Iga Swiatek in three sets

Although their four head-to-head meetings suggest that Saturday's match will be close, Swiatek has been in impressive form with six tournament victories in 2022 and having already beaten Jabeur in a final this year, we think that the world number one will claim her third Grand Slam title.
