Eugenie Bouchard started her US Open campaign with a comfortable 6-2 6-2 victory over Olga Govortsova on Tuesday night.
Govortsova matched her rival shot for shot in the early stages of the match, and threatened to make a breakthrough until Bouchard saved break point on three occasions in the fifth game.
Bouchard then took charge of the match, breaking her opponent in her next two service games to take the first set in impressive fashion.
The Wimbledon finalist, still searching for her maiden victory in one of the four major tournaments, quickly asserted her dominance in the second set by breaking her Belarusian in just the second game.
In comparison, Govortsova was barely able to make a dent on Bouchard's serve, and she appeared almost helpless as the Canadian secured another break before finishing off the match in just over an hour.
