Dan Evans has recorded a four-set victory over Rajeev Ram to reach the second round of the US Open.
The British number two was making his first appearance in the main draw at Flushing Meadows since his run to the third round in 2013, but he relished the chance to compete against an American representative in New York as he ran out a 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-1 winner.
The Birmingham-based hitter eased through the first set in 31 minutes but he failed to take his opportunities in the second as Ram levelled the match.
However, he held his nerve during the closing stages of the third before racing through the fourth with two more breaks of serve to seal the win in two-and-a-half hours.
Evans will face Germany's Alexander Zverev in the second round.
